Vermont Campus Compact Statewide Award
Finalists and Recipients

Each current Vermont Campus Compact member institution receives up to 4 fee waivers. Please contact your primary VCC campus representative (f0llow link in right-hand column) for more information and authorization to choose that option.

This conference will bring together faculty, staff, administrators, students and community members to examine the ways institutions can use service, service-learning and civic engagement to enhance various outcomes in higher education regarding such topics as student learning, diversity, residential life, retention, global citizenship, community building, sustainability, alcohol use, and student engagement.

The goals of this conference are to:

  • Strengthen each institution’s ability to fulfill its civic and social mission;
  • Promote a better educational experience and better educational outcomes through civic engagement;
  • Connect and encourage collaboration of colleagues across institutional lines working on similar goals.

Anticipated audience: Faculty, staff, administrators and students from throughout the entire campus, as well as community partners who work with institutions of higher education.

The Conference will include:

  • Keynote Address
    Creating Conditions for Student Success
    Vincent Tinto, Distinguished Professor of Education at Syracuse University

    "Tinto is Distinguished University Professor at Syracuse University and until recently Chair of the Higher Education Program. He has carried out research and has written extensively on higher education, particularly on student success and the impact of learning communities on student growth and attainment. His most recent book, Leaving College, published by the University of Chicago Press, lays out a theory and policy perspective on student success."

    "Dr. Tinto has received numerous recognitions and awards. Most recently he was awarded the Council of Independent Colleges 2008 Academic Leadership Award, the National Institute for Staff Development International 2008 Leadership Award and was named Distinguished Fellow in the Council of Learning Assistance and Developmental Education Associations."

  • Workshops examining how civic engagement can enhance various aspects of higher education, including student learning, diversity, retention, residential life, student engagement, sustainability, global citizenship, community building, alcohol use and more. More workshops to be annouced shortly.
