2010-2011 Americorps Programs

If you have any questions about hosting a full time Access and Success and/or an Environmental Sustainability AmeriCorps member on your campus or in partnership, please contact Laura Rooney, the Vermont Campus Compact AmeriCorps Coordinator at laurar@middlebury.edu, or (802) 443-2511, or to Amy McGlashan at agibansm@middlebury.edu, or (802) 443-2510.

Request for Proposals (RFP) and Technical Assistance Calls

AmeriCorps VISTA

We will offer AC VISTA positions for VCC member institutions, as we have in years past, that leverage higher education resources to address poverty. This program faces cutbacks at the federal and state level, so we are only able to offer 7-8 positions for 2010-11. Strong VISTA proposals will have a very direct connection between capacity building at higher education institutions and anti-poverty related work. Overview

New Americorps Programs

Current Proposals:

We are hopeful that we will be able to offer two other types of full-time (FT) Corps positions, one on Access & Success (A&S) and the other called Sustainable Environment Entrepreneurs (SEE), beginning in September, 2010. These two Corps will be AmeriCorps National Direct programs. See below for more complete description of both opportunities. These are proposals VCC submitted in late January, in collaboration with our counterparts in Maine and NH, and other partners, that would be open to all institutions of higher education in Vermont.

  1. ACCESS AND SUCCESS: This program would enable full time AmeriCorps members to work with and through higher education institutions in Northern New England to increase access to and success in higher education. In the overview you will see a variety of sample projects these AmeriCorps members might develop, in three areas: high school-based access programs; college-based access programs, and college-based programs focused on retention and success. Complete Overview

  2. ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY: This program would enable full time AmeriCorps members to work with and through higher education institutions in New England on environmental sustainability efforts, both on campus and in communities. In the overview you will see a variety of sample projects these AmeriCorps members might develop, most specifically related to sustainable food, transportation and energy, but not exclusively.

SERVE NNE

In addition to those three types of FT members, the two new proposals being submitted also provide for the continuation of the SERVE program, which offers part-time (PT) AmeriCorps positions to current college students. The Request for Proposals for campuses to offer part-time positions to their students will be available in early April, with a late May deadline.
