Americorp Profile

Anna Schulz, VISTA, Sterling College Local Food Sustainability Coordinator

After graduating from Harvard in June and spending her summer farming in Sweden, Anna Schulz returned home to northern Vermont, where she is serving as an AmeriCorps*VISTA at Sterling College in Craftsbury Common.

A native of Johnson, Anna grew up eating a wide variety of things grown in the backyard and prepared at home, so her role as Sterling's Local Food Sustainability Coordinator is fitting. In addition to increasing Sterling's own use of local food products, Anna will also be recruiting volunteers and reaching out to area schools and organizations to increase awareness of local food use, community involvement, and composting.

The program goals are to increase representation at farmers' markets, improve media coverage of the local food initiative, and foster connections between Sterling College and youth in Craftsbury to encourage pursuit of higher education as a part of a long-term educational plan.

Anna feels strongly about issues related to food sustainability and is thrilled to have an opportunity to share her concern for this issue with other people in Craftsbury Common and beyond.
