Americorp Profile
Kay Freedy, VISTA, Middlebury College - Alliance for Civic Engagement and Charter House
Kay Freedy’s AmeriCorps*VISTA position is split between the Middlebury College Alliance for Civic Engagement Office and The Community at Charter House, an emergency housing facility open December through April.
When Kay is wearing her Middlebury College hat, she is an integral component of the Community Friends mentoring program. Since beginning her term of service in August, Kay has opened communication with school guidance counselors and overseen historic growth in total number of college-community mentor matches. Community Friends had 28 matches in September 2009, grew to 43 matches in January 2010, and anticipates approximately 80 active, on-campus mentors matched by Spring term.
Wearing her Charter House hat, Kay helps recruit, train, and schedule Middlebury students and community volunteers to serve as hosts at the all-volunteer facility. She is also involved with a variety of other projects that support the well-being of Charter House residents and volunteers and the sustainability of student volunteer efforts into the future.
Kay values the relationships she has with the College and the community partners she works with.
